Brilliant news — new counsellor

The trustees of The Eye Fund are pleased to announce that Joy Hawitt is now established as their new counsellor. Joy is a member of The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and will work within their guidelines to provide the best possible service. She is working closely with The Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted to provide much needed counselling sessions offering emotional support to those in need of help.

The Eye Fund has provided the necessary funds to support this service. Joy has already helped quite a few people who have needed her support.

A night at the Ashville Lodge races

What a great night we all had at Ashville Lodge, home of The Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted. Although there were only 35 ‘Punters’ (health and safety) we made over £428 between the two charities.

Thanks to all who attended and many thanks to the volunteers who did a remarkable job looking after the visually-impaired.

5th Fractured Vision Art Exhibition — success

What a fantastic start we had to the art exhibition. Within 2 hours we had taken nearly £500. This will go a long way to help those losing their vision. We donated an Apple Watch, an Apple iPhone and Guide software for a computer. The recipients were so grateful. They all promised to do as much as they can to help raise funds for The Eye Fund.

The evening was made extra special with a set from Vocal Infinity. Thank you very much ladies. You were tremendous.

The exhibition, lasting a week, raised over £1400 for The Eye Fund. Thanks to all who made this possible.

5th Fractured Vision Art Exhibition

The 5th Fractured Vision Art Exhibition, featuring graphics by Simon Sherry, will be held in the Visitors Center, Birkenhead Park from Monday, 8th May to Sunday, 14th May. The doors will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily. Admission is free.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Sunday, 7th May, by The Eye Fund Patron, Mike McCartney.

On sale will be copies of Simon’s unique graphics, either framed or just mounted. Also, using the same graphics, there will be on sale, jewellery, greetings cards, silk scarves etc.

Successful Exhibition

The 4th “Fractured Vision” Exhibition was a great success.

Opened by Patron Mike McCartney, the exhibition lasted the whole week in the Visitors Centre, Birkenhead Park. On display and for sale were copies of Simon’s work in the form of framed pictures, jewellery, greeting cards, silk scarves, cushions, etc.

The total funds raised was over £1100.

Thanks to all who bought items and helped in any way.

2013 a GREAT YEAR

2013 has been a productive year for The Eye Fund.

In May we had our third exhibition of Simon’s graphic designs opened by The Eye Fund patron, Mike McCartney. Joining us this time were The Wirral Potters. Their beautiful pottery attracted a lot of attention and they very kindly donated all the proceeds to the charity. Total from the week long exhibition was in the region of £1300.

At the exhibition, Jak, an eleven year old student who is suffering failing vision was presented with a specially adapted iPad to help with his studies. Kerry and Karl received Samsung tablets to help them at work. A cheque for
£2000 was presented to The Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighed to help them purchase a Braille machine. Thanks to everyone who helped to make it possible.

Trustee of The Eye Fund, Dr Deborah Broadbent was married in June and asked the guests to donate to the charity rather than give gifts. The amount raised was an amazing £1100.

Friends of The Eye Fund at Hope Place in Prenton helped us hold a Race Night on their premises. That, combined with another Race Night supported by the Department of the Environment raised over £700.

Eye Fund counsellor at St. Paul’s Hospital, Liverpool, Wendy Lee, very generously held a “Jewellery Party” in her home. Sales from The Eye Fund merchandise, jewellery, scarves and pictures, raised over £400. Well Done! Wendy.

Presentation to Karl Thompson

On Wednesday 10th July, Carol and Paul went to Ashville Lodge, home of the Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted, to present a Samsung Synapptic tablet to Karl Thompson.

Karl is 17 years old and has failing sight. He is a very bright boy and will be helped at school with his new tablet.

The Eye Fund trustees wish him lots of happy and successful hours.

Notes from Fractured Vision v3.0

The third exhibition of Simon’s fantastic art work was held in The Gallery in Birkenhead Park, April 29th to 6th May. It was opened by The Eye Fund patron, Mike McCartney.

Invited guests enjoyed a preview of the exhibition. The Wirral Potters and members of The Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted craft group were inspired by Simon’s designs to create some amazing pieces.

Simon’s brother, Phil, proposed a toast to him with champagne kindly donated by Paul McCartney.

The exhibition ran for nine days and raised £1500 for the charity.
