Problems with our online donations

We are aware that there is a problem with the PayPal link on this site that means when anyone clicks on the donate button, they are taken to an error screen.

We are working on fixing this issue, but in the mean time if you would like to send us a donation, or purchase any of our Eye Fund Shop items, please get in touch with us using the contact us form.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this, and hope to have it working as normal very soon.

Coming up in 2010

A very belated happy new year from The Eye Fund! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and 2010 has so far been good to you.

After our January break, we are now back with enthusiasm and working hard to make 2010 the best year yet for The Eye Fund. We are excited about the schedule of events that we have been busy putting together, and can’t wait to share it with you.

As a taster of things to come, we can confirm that we are about to launch a range of ladies scarves for sale in our Eye Fund Shop. The scarves are all based on Simon’s artwork, and the colours are just gorgeous. We have had some samples here and everyone who has seen them has been amazed at both the designs and the quality of the material. The new range will be available soon from our online shop, and just in time for mother’s day too (March 14th 2010)!

But if scarves aren’t your cup of tea, remember we have lots of other products on sale which we’re sure you’ll love. Rest assured EVERY PENNY we make from the sale of our shop products goes towards The Eye Fund.

One of the most exciting events we have coming up is a new exhibition. After the overwhelming success of our last exhibition at the Pavilion in Birkenhead Park, we are thrilled to be able to bring you a new, bigger and better exhibition, and we wish we could share more details with you as we know you’ll be just as excited!

Unfortunately for now, as with the rest of our fundraising plans for the coming months, our lips are sealed. But watch this space and more will be revealed soon…

Donations

We have had 2 very good donations recently; one of £500 from The Eleanor Rathbone Trust, and one for £200 from The Proven Family Trust.

I sent about 50 letters out to various Charity Trusts asking for donations. It’s worked up to now. So, as you can see, we have had a very busy and successful year.

However, we would like a little more help. Is there anyone out there who would like to lend a hand now and again? Perhaps you could organise a quiz night or jumble sale or coffee morning. Anything would be welcome.

Thank you.

Craft Fair in the Pavilion, Birkenhead Park

I think the people in Birkenhead must be getting fed up with us by now. Only kidding—they have been very generous.

This was a new craft fair that hadn’t been there before and we were offered a free table as we are a charity. We couldn’t miss this opportunity to get to know other stall-holders and raise even more for the charity.

It was over the 2 days but only from 11:00am to 3:00pm. We finished the weekend taking £225.00.

Collection at Central Station AND Christmas Fair at Ashville Lodge

We really had our work cut out that day. 10:00am we landed at Central Station in Liverpool, set up the banners, started to collect until 12:00 noon when our relief crew arrived. Then we dashed to Ashville Lodge in Birkenhead to take part in the Craft Fair.

We had arranged to set the stall up on Friday and for someone to attend the stall for us till we arrived at 12:30pm. By 4:00pm we had had enough and were glad to see other stalls packing up. Altogether it was a very successful day; £341.80 from Central Station and £221.50 from the craft fair.

Cheltenham Race Course

We were at Cheltenham Race Course for the whole weekend, not for the racing this time, but with the Ladies Association of Barbershop Singers. We took everything we had to sell as we knew there would be over 3000 people there for the weekend, mainly ladies.

We sold mainly jewellery and some cards and framed pictures and we made £860 all together. It was a strenuous weekend, but worth while.

Charity Race Night in Higher Bebington

Now this was a fun night. We had a Race Night at Victoria Hall in Higher Bebington. Everything was going well and we were just about to start when the DVD player failed to play.

Imagine, a race night with no racing.

However, one bright ‘punter’ brought their laptop in and managed to get the night off to a good start.

We had a hot-pot supper laid on; that was delicious. Plenty of donations helped us take over £200 on the raffle. The local shopkeepers were very generous. The betting was quick and heavy before each race.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and we were the overall winners taking £1200 on the night.

Thanks Beryl and everyone who helped.

World Sight Day at Ashville Lodge

Once again back to the Pavilion in Birkenhead Park. This time it was for World Sight Day, and we were there mainly to raise the awareness of the charity.

Among those there were The Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted, The Liaison Officer from The Eye Clinic, Arrowe Park Hospital and his assistant, the RNIB, and various commercial firms with their goods for sale.

This was not a day for selling but it was very interesting meeting all the different people involved with helping those with vision problems. As such, it was successful.

Craft Fair at The Pavilion in Birkenhead Park

This was our first real opportunity to display our goods at a Craft Fair. Held in The Pavilion in Birkenhead Park, it was supposed to be in a big marquee. Guess what? Someone forgot to order it. (D’oh!)

However, some thoughtful person managed to buy some gazebos and (nearly) everything worked out OK.

The weather was good and we managed to take about £200.

Rock in the Car Park

Carol and Paul rocked in the car park of the Mersey Clipper pub along with members and volunteers of Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted.

As well as selling stuff the public who came in were serenaded by some very loud but good bands.

Insanity Beach were the headlining band. Also excellent was a Bob Marley sound and look alike guy called Trevor Gleason.

The day stayed dry for the most part and the charity benefitted to the tune of £150.
